At the end of the 19th century, Danish artists were among the first in the Western world to engage with, and adopt Japanese art, into their work. By the 20th century, ‘Japonisme’ had become a significant and essential element in Danish Modernism. This book documents, in great detail, the development of Japanese influences in Danish art, design, and architecture from 1870–2010, showcasing 450 illustrations and photos of artworks and objects from Designmuseum Danmark’s major collections.
