Urban microclimates can not be reduced to scientific phenomena, but they are also spatially and materially shaped by the local architecture of the city. Arrangement, design and facade design of buildings significantly influence the wind and temperature conditions. Architectural and urban development measures for the creation of microclimates must therefore be examined in their social and cultural contexts.
The publication explains these relationships using international case studies. The focus is on the architectural and urban manifestations of urban microclimates. The investigated locations are in France, Italy, the USA, New Zealand, the Philippines, Taiwan and Burkina Faso.
