A kind of small, multi-volume encyclopaedia, this catalogue appears in conjunction with an exhibition conceived and realised by Hou Hanru at MAXXI. The museum becomes a street laboratory of resistance and liberation in an ambitious undertaking that features roughly 100 international artists, together with architects, urban designers, scientists, and scholars. Site-specific works and ideas are brought into the museum space, mindful of the evolutions and regressions of the social pact in this global era. Through art, architecture, photography, video, performance, and more, it considers how our historical era deeply impacts the functions and rules of democracy.
