描述
This volume completes the task started with TC57, and continued with TC102 / 103 , to show the public in detail the architectural production of Joao Alvaro Rocha , one of the most interesting architects of recent Portuguese architecture, which having Considering the high level of architecture in this country, it is saying a lot.
Souto de Moura, in the interview included in this monograph, states that two things have changed the image of Porto: the Metro and Ryanair.
I do not know if there is any relationship between Rocha and Ryanair, but I can assure you from the content of this issue that the relationship between Rocha and the Porto metro has been very fruitful.
It couldn’t possibly be otherwise, Rocha feels secure in objective processes, that is, those projects in which construction is the fundamental support of architecture.
For this reason, the reader in this set of proposals will observe, in the same way as in TC102 / 103 dedicated to collective and isolated housing, the same coherence. Ramón Sanabria calls it precision, “everything becomes coherent and nothing can be dissociated”. Perhaps we could also talk about order, systematization, method, etc.
All this in a natural way, as if what the public observed had not represented an enormous previous work. The Ponte de Lima Tourism House, which appears on the cover of this issue, is an expression of the above. A single action allows the appearance of an integrated and new public space respecting the memory of the place.
In short, this monograph, in the same way as the previous ones dedicated to Rocha, basically contains a repertoire of solutions.
I want to end these lines by quoting Eduardo Souto de Moura again. In the aforementioned interview he says: “I have never seen a degraded work by Rocha”
