描述
Although the work of Graça Correia and Roberto Ragazzi has been widely published and awarded in many countries, this is the first complete monograph that includes its architectural production in a single volume. In 282 pages a total of 13 projects and works are presented from its beginnings as a study to the most recent production that is still in process.
The architecture of Graça Correia and Roberto Ragazzi has a strong presence of the material carried to the extreme of its physical and aesthetic depuration. In his work, the role of the structure from the very conception is evident, but although it does not work autonomously or impose itself on the formal result, it does not hide seeking to obtain that magical effect of surprise so contemporary. His way of understanding the function and relationship of the structure with the architecture is far from the separation of both in autonomous systems, the purely structural and the purely aesthetic.
From the beginning, in its sketches, the structure is neither hidden nor imposed on the form, the same outline contains both. There is no rejection of gravity, weight, but without imposing itself on form. The notion of equilibrium predominates, not of a visually unstable equilibrium but, precisely because of the indivisibility between form and structure, of a balance in which both weigh equally. Graça and Roberto manage to tame the structure so that it is an indissoluble part of the form. Or what is the same, it is through the tamed structure that the form is domesticated.
