描述
For some people, Schiphol Airport represents the best of the Netherlands to the outside world and is the country’s economic powerhouse; for others, it is an unlucky accident of planological development and a poor reflection of Dutch environmental policy. This book of photographs by Reinier Gerritsen and Luuk Kramer gives a visual impression of the broad range of perceptions and ideas about the airport. The photographers’ fascination with the airport’s multiplicity has inspired them to capture not just the place – including areas that are otherwise offbounds for the general public but also the people whose day-to-day life is somehow linked with the airport, from travellers and airline staff to airport directors and local residents. The restricted roaming eye of the photographers as resulted in an abundance of images, doing away with stereotypes and preconceived ideas. A short essay places the ongoing political, social and environmental discussions about the future of Schiphol Airport in an historical perspective.
