描述
Raphael Zuber is a mysterious character within the Swiss school of architecture. He studied until 2001 at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETHZ). In the same year he started his own practice in Riva San Vitale, and in 2003 he founded his own studio in Chur. His first completed building of his was the Grono school, and just in 2015 he completed his second work: the Domat / Ems apartment building. He is the author of the Neuchâtel Ethnographic Museum and the SUPSI building on the University Campus in Mendrisio, as well as his celebrated weekend home on the Isle of Harris, in Scotland. He has taught at various schools around the world, and is currently a visiting professor at the EPFL in Lausanne.
His work is rarely published, and despite being a cult architect in Europe, he still has not achieved the recognition he deserves in America.
This monograph includes the work of four projects, their interests, architectural, but also textures and plant species, and adds a couple of essays: “Beyond the Sea” and “The Lion”, written by Samuel Penn. The book is carefully edited by Pelinu Books, only 450 copies were printed, hardcover, hand-bound and with a custom-made protective box. It goes without saying that it is a very valuable opportunity to delve into the work and thought of one of the most interesting contemporary architects in Switzerland.
We are proud to have some copies for sale at Artlecta.
“Space, in all its complexity, has a profound impact on all sides of our consciousness and well-being. Spatial qualities are not precisely measurable, but there are reasons why we like or dislike something. All the great buildings I know have an idea of ??space, and create places with a particular character, which makes me feel part of the whole.”
-Raphael Zuber-
The pure black background sharpens the perception of this comprehensive series of duotone stills which are further clarified by stylized plans and project descriptions. An array of seemingly random yet beautiful 1:1 scans of banal objects anchors the virtual in our daily life.
