Envisioning scenarios for how the reunification of Korea might occur, and projecting the impact that alternative scenarios of unification could exert on the urban form of the North Korean capital of Pyongyang in a future unified Korea, is the subject of this book’s investigation. Since the end of the Korean War more than 60 years ago, the economic and political ideologies of the two countries have inscribed themselves on the physical and spatial form of the capitals of Seoul and Pyongyang. The contrast between a democratic, free market economy and a totalitarian, Juche ideology is examined through topics such as urban planning, transportation, spatial wealth, and monuments.
