This catalogue, the ninth in the current series, accompanies the traditional End of Year Exhibition of students’ work. The exhibition is open to the public from 8-30 July.
The Intensity and cohesiveness of the individual exhibits shown is characteristic of the unit system which has been the basic organisational device within the school for the past decade. Staff and students arrange themselves in selfselecting groups respecting differences in pedagogical technique, theoretical and ideological positions and attitudes towards design and style. Over the years, and particularly in the Diploma School (years 4 & 5), space has been found for long term experiments and research involving a continuity of work, the evolution of ideas and the slow, painful emergence of confidence and a sense of style. The spirit and variety of the work produced in this way has enriched the school as a whole due to the energy and integrity of both staff and students involved in the process as demonstrated, for example, in the following pages. In addition the output of the service units and the various postgraduate courses including Energy Studies, Housing, History and Theory, Planning, Building Conservation and Professional Practice are included.
