描述
This book tells the story of human habitation in the western world from the earliest signs of settlement in the Euphrates and Jordan valleys to the Mesopotamian palaces of the 2nd millennium BC. It locates the origin of architectural form in the contrasting lives and beliefs of nomadic hunters and pastoralists on the one hand and the first farmers on the other, and traces the expression of those beliefs – sometimes in conflict, sometimes in combination – in Mesopotamia, Egypt, Crete and the Aegean and Anatolia.
