Rafael Moneo, the world-famous Spanish architect (*1937), recently completed a hotel building at Potsdamerplatz in Berlin that impresses with its Mediterranean cheerfulness and at the same time classical austerity. The Swiss designer Hannes Wettstein (*1958, professor at the Karlsruhe University of Design) is responsible for the congenial interior design and furnishings. An ambitious art program with contemporary works completes the impression and turns the building into a successful work of art. This building monograph (continuing the Birkhäuser titles: Renzo Piano – Fondation Beyeler and Zaha Hadid, LF one) offers comprehensive documentation using largely unpublished sketches, plans, photos and texts.
