Peris+Toral was founded in 2005 by Marta Peris and José Toral. Together they dedicate their Barcelona-based practice to research on dwelling and building methods, with theoretical and written work that addresses areas such as the relationship between film and architecture, modern ways of living, low-impact construction systems, and comfort. This monographic issue features a conversation between the architects and Eduardo Prieto, where they explore systems of exception and their attention to perception, depth, and gradient. Fourteen works are profiled, including several Spanish social housing projects, the Pere Garau Health Centre, and a house-studio in Barcelona.

 

PERIS+TORAL ARQUITECTES is a Barcelona-based studio, founded in 2005 by Marta Peris and José Toral, dedicated to research on dwelling and building methods. Their theoretical and written work addresses areas such as the relationship between film and architecture, contemporary ways of living, low-impact construction systems, and comfort.

In academia, Marta Peris—who holds a doctorate in architecture—and José Toral are professors at the Barcelona School of Architecture (ETSAB). Both have been invited to teach at the Politecnico di Milano and, since 2024, have been visiting professors at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). Their work has received widespread international recognition, most notably the 2024 RIBA International Prize.

His work has been extensively published and presented at international conferences, and his projects have been part of exhibitions such as “Peris+Toral Wohnungsbau” —a monographic retrospective, at the Kunstverein Bielefeld—, as well as exhibitions at the Cité de l’Architecture in Paris and various participations in the Venice Biennale (2016, 2025).
