描述
Published in conjunction with the exhibition ‘Ein Stein Teehaus und andere Architekturen’ at Raketenstation Hombroich, the soft bound publication follows the genesis of Terunobu Fujimori’s ‘Ein Stein Teehaus’ designed for the Raketenstation Hombroich.
The Japanese architectural historian occupies an unusual position within international architectural practice and history. Renowned for his designs for tearooms and teahouses, Fujimori’s work is characterised by the use of natural materials and their relationship with the surrounding landscape.
A photo essay introduces the finished building within the context of the landscape. The design process and the treatment of materials, especially the Yakisugi Method, which Terunobu Fujimori employed to prepare the materials for the façade, are documented in detail. His important essay, ’The Tearoom, the Minimal Room’, translated into German and English for the first time, is illustrated by a selection of his earlier projects for teahouses. Frank Boehm provides an essay of the project within the context of the Japanese tradition of the tea ceremony as well as of buildings and projects by the architect.
