How can architecture exist as an art form in an increasingly technocratic world? How can architects translate their designs into cost-effective and economical buildings?
In eight uncompromising projects Gert Wingårdh presents his personal answers. The bandwidth begins with simple construction tasks such as a water tower and a bus stop. Opposite are the ornate Aula Medica of the Karolinska Institutet, as well as the Naturum Visitor Center museum buildings in Gällivare in northern Sweden, the renovation of the National Museum and the expansion of the Liljevalchs Art Gallery.
An afterword by Mårten Castenfors, director of the Liljevalchs Art Gallery, complements the architect’s personal comments on his projects, which are presented in detail in hand sketches, photographs and drawings.
