Architecture and climate protection

Anyone who asks the unavoidable question of climate protection in architecture today will not get one but many answers. They concern the energy consumption of buildings, their embodied energy and the use of materials that reduce the carbon footprint. In addition, building in existing buildings is finally being valued, and the focus is on the pure construction of demountable structures as well as the fundamental principles of the circular economy. For the interview in this issue, Barbara Zettel and Jakob Schoof asked Michael Braungart, the inventor of the principle, what the current situation is with Cradle-to-Cradle in the construction industry
asked. The project documentation shows the most diverse concepts and solutions with which architecture meets its climate responsibility. These include pioneering buildings made of used materials, daring photovoltaic applications and a school project in which the continued construction of existing buildings has been masterfully perfected. There is no one-size-fits-all recipe for climate issues in architecture and there is still a lot to be done. So let’s stay tuned.
