This publication compiles in detail 104 pages all the details of the Caixaforum de Zaragoza project, the work of Estudio Carme Pinós, from the contest to its completion.
A commission that did not only cover the architectural project but also the interior design of the spaces, the furniture, the graphic design of the signage as well as the integration of pieces of art.
The project is located in an area of the city of Zaragoza in full urban transformation. In 2003, the old railroad station “El Portillo” was relocated to the west of the city, leaving a large gap between the old and the new city.
The City Council, within its urban plans, defined for this space an urban park and a series of facilities with the aim of making a transition between this new area and the rest of the consolidated city.
In this context, the City Council and the “Fundación la Caixa” establish an agreement to build the CaixaForum Zaragoza as the first building of this transformation and turn it into the dynamic element of a large urban complex and gateway to the new park. We were asked, therefore, to create an emblematic, unique and cultural building that would work as a polarizer of the urban context and, at the same time, a paradigm of energy efficiency.
