描述
This book surveys the young and rapidly growing field of building automation-the technology of making buildings “smart” or “intelligent.” Such homes, commercial facilities and real estate are endowed with sophisticated control systems that provide them with the ability to do many types of tasks, maximizing their covenience, usefulness and cost-effectiveness to owners and tenants.
Of special consideration in this book are the more advanced and less costly methods of maintaining the enormous population of interior, decorative greenery (called interiorscapes by the industry) around the world. Until recently these tasks have been entirely manual. Highly automated, precision irrigation systems are now available to service containerized and direct-planted foliage plants in simple and complex installations throughout the building…particularly suited for critical furnished areas.
Living plants are being used in profusion by homeowners, architects, interior designers, restaurateurs and office managers for esthetic, psychological and economic reasons. Now physical health concerns having to do with indoor air pollution bring a new dimension to the usefulness of interior plants. NASA’s Environmental Research laboratory has demonstrated plants’ effectiveness in cleansing confined interior air of toxic pollutants through natural biological processes. Automated irrigation systems can be coupled to the maintenance needs of planters used in indoor air quality strategies, and to computerized control centers in technically endowed buildings.
Mr. Snyder provides a complete understanding of Micro-IrrigationTM Systems, which represent state-of-the-art, precision, interior irrigation technology. Everything from recommended equipment and techniques to systems design, installation and operation is thoroughly discussed.
